Dr Niall Finneran is Reader in Archaeology at the University of Winchester. He obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1999. He has been excavating and undertaking archaeological and heritage work at Speightstown, Barbados since 2010.

Dr Finneran is collaborating with Annalee Davis on heritage educational work at Walkers Dairy as part of a trans-Atlantic, interdisciplinary project called Unearthing Voices. This project uses archaeology, heritage studies, contemporary art and social practice to explore the material heritage of Barbados, as well as the emerging responses of a community engaging with that heritage.

Dr Finneran and colleagues are adapting current ideas in British heritage practice, such as a crowd-sourced digital heritage database to trial digital pedagogic strategies (websites, apps, multi-media), enabling Barbadian history teachers in infant, primary and secondary schools in Barbados and the UK to develop cost-effective, sustainable and successful methods for designing and presenting heritage-related curricula.
